Hello Friends,

I hope your past 2 weeks were good! Mine were packed with creative work, planning, and meetings, but from now on I hope to spend a lot more time resting with my family, which is a nice mental reset.

Today’s playlist - Midweek Crisis #41 - is a compilation of various songs that I discovered this month. Every single one of them resonated with me on slightly different levels. You can jump straight to the playlist…

…or stay with me for a couple of minutes, and get to know why I picked some of these songs.

▶️ The Backseat Lovers - "Growing/Dying"

It’s for sure the best of my newest finds, and perhaps, even of this year. I truly have been blessed for this song to find its way to my ears 🙏. I think some songs are destined to meet you in a particular season and in a specific state of mind. So happy it popped out on my YouTube suggestions list.

I think saying that The Backseat Lovers is one of the most promising young indie rock bands right now, is not an exaggeration. They instantly arouse nostalgia in listeners sounding like a mix of Radiohead, Pixies, and Modest Mouse. Go ahead and check it yourself. And do not skip watching the music video - the animation is mindblowing! 🤯

▶️ Warhaus - "Time Bomb"

Back in 2017, Warhaus (Maarten Devoldere) conquered my heart with his ballads sung with a deep, sexy voice, so I was really excited to hear his new album "Ha Ha Heartbreak". It was great to discover this one is even better than the previous one. It’s filled with seductive vibes, a movie atmosphere, and steamy voices… 🥵

Also, the music video to "Time Bomb" is worth watching. It perfectly captures the mood of the whole album:

▶️ quinnie - "itch"

Another song from my latest (and lately surprisingly good) YouTube suggestions list. With this song, I was introduced to quinnie’s music. Usually, I don’t listen to bedroom pop artists, but this one feels different. The combo of her high-reaching voice, intimate acoustics, and heart-heavy, honest lyrics made a huge impression on me. I’m really curious about what she’ll come up with next.

▶️ Dora Jar - "Spell"

This one hit me with its warmth and simplicity (built on literally two chords). It makes you armchair travel to your best memories, doesn’t it? Dora Jar in "Spell" sounds to me like a mix of cozy and nostalgic Fleetwood Mac songs and folky Sigur Rós. Would you agree?

▶️ Tom Odell - "Just Another Thing We Don't Talk About"

In my opinion, it’s one of the best songs on Tom Odell’s newest album - "Best Day Of My Life" (2022). To be honest, I don’t think there’s a single bad song on it. And I don’t know how about you, but for me, Tom Odell could sing a receipt without any beat, and it still would sound good.

▶️ Kowloon - "Wake Up"

A soothing voice, chill beat, and weird visuals = ideal combo 🔥 Kowloon never disappoints me. I discovered them during the 2020 pandemic, and since then their music always cheers me up. Hope it will work for you as well 🙏✨😊

▶️ POLO & PAN feat. Jacques - "From A World To Another"

Polo & Pan’s music is a must on my dancing-related playlists. I love electronic music and how this duo explores this genre. "From A World To Another" caught my attention not only with the weird animation from its music video but mainly because of what it reminds me of. When I first heard this song I thought of the Sackboy game, Beat Saber VR game, and music levels in Rayman Legends. I absolutely love playing games in which players’ moves, elements of the scenery, and the music are synchronized 🎮🎶

▶️ Ren - "What You Want"

My last featured pick is this one by Ren Gill, a Brighton-based singer/songwriter, producer, rapper, busker, poet, and multi-instrumentalist from the UK. I like it a lot because of its irresistible 90’s/ Beastie Boys vibe. The beat is SICK, the lyrics are fun, and the vocal is fine.

I got what you want
I got what you need
Old-school kicks with a new school twist
Banging on my mp3

If you don’t know Ren, I think you may be surprised by his music styles that he keeps changing like a chameleon. Especially worth watching are his live performances with his band called The Big Push - check it out on YouTube.
