Hey Stygi, long time no see! I’m slowly working my way through a backlog of unread Substacks and have guai made it here. Yay!
Sounds like 2023 was an awesome year for you! I’m so happy to have discovered your writing here. And I’m glad you were comfortable to experiment with your posting schedule and frequency. I’m certainly glad you stuck around with the writing or I might never have found you!
Thanks for sharing about mental health, it’s so important to talk about it so we can normalize discussions like we do for our physical health. I loved that self-care checklist!
Hi Mark, Happy 2024! Same here 🙋♀️ Still have so much to catch up on.. I think the best thing about Substack in general is that it gives us this unique space and possibility to connect despite the distance, language and other factors. I’m also very happy we’ve found each other. Thank you and all the best to you too ✨✨✨
You bring such an important energy and joy to all of our lives through this newsletter, Stygi - it’s infectious. I echo everyone here when I say how much we love your work. As Jack mentioned, we all go through periods of adjustment, and it’s always okay to take a pause! Wishing you and Tomas a happy new year!
Yes!! As you know, I'm selfishly glad you did this year in review: it gives me plenty of inspiration (health, wealth, and wisdom for the new year), a ton of new music to explore, and a reminder to read Pachinko which has been collecting dust on my bookshelf for years. Thanks again!
Happy to deliver 🫡🎶✨ and thanks again for reminding me of this! Ooof Pachinko blew my mind. You know, there’s also a great series adaptation of it on Apple TV+ - 💯 recommend it if you haven’t seen it.
Stygi, thanks for this year end recap. I’m going to go back and read the pieces I missed, especially the ones around mental health. I’m definitely in anxiety sufferer and have written about it a bit myself. So I am very interested in what you have to say. Exercise definitely is a big help for me. Though it has been probably my least workout specific year of my life. Thankfully, becoming a full-time Dog Walker and getting between 15 and 25,000 steps a day makes not ever going to the gym on a run feel not so bad.
I’m impressed that you got 30 books read, as reading books definitely took a major downturn for me this year as I have been focusing on my Substack. It’s difficult to read books when you follow 20 to 30 amazing newsletters and want to give them the type of attention I hope people give me.
It is a great exercise to truly look back at the year and acknowledge our accomplishments. I’m glad you have done that here.
Hey Steve, thank you for taking the time to write this comment 🙏 I'm sorry to read that you also struggle with anxiety, and hope you'll find something comforting and helpful in there. Dog walks, and just walks in general are the best! And your daily distance is helluva impressive! 👏 That kind of amount is available for me only on weekends. For sure you can easily skip the gym without feeling any guilt
Right?! I join you in pain. So many great newsletters, and so little time to read them all! btw I like what you wrote and your attitude towards those you read and interact with... It's really inspiring
It's so nice nice to read this. If you decide to write and share your list on Substack, be sure to let me know
Nice recap...I enjoyed your reflections very much...plus, I really want to visit Mauritius (the sooner, the better), so I might hit you up for some advice and recommendations... Wishing you the very best in 2024!
Addendum...I am thrilled you didn't shut down this project. We all go through periods of adjustment (I'm going through that now), and that's totally cool - it makes us stronger, our project stronger, and ultimately, our readers happier!
How awesome! Yes totally, be sure to let me know when you start planning a trip there. I have a lot of great recommendations on where to stay, what to eat, go trekking or swimming.
Thanks for these words, Jack 🙏 It means a lot to me, you know?
I guess I needed to figure out my rhythm in this all. I think that if I chickened out and ran away, I would miss all of you and the energy here absolutely terribly.
Nice idea! At this time of year, we all need to reach for warming sounds 🔥

Another thing I forgot to mention is how much I adored The Midnight Library by Matt Haig, just an absolutely glorious book!

I’m really glad you’re still writing on here! I was starting to wonder if you’d decided to pack it in.
I’m at work and it’s -3c, so I think I need to look at the vacation pics again! Tropical sounds good right now.
