Hey,
How’s your April? I hope it’s treating you nicely so far. Mine is okay-ish. I’m still dealing with grief, and despite my best intentions, healthy routines, taking various endorphin-releasing activities and focusing on the positive, some days are damn hard, grey, and frustrating. But that’s how it is I guess. Life is a series of loop-the-loops, right?
Anyhow, let’s listen!

▶️ Club Kuru - "Who Am I?"
Everything about this song is right down my alley. Its deep lyrics, alt/psych vibes, smooth voice of band’s frontman Laurie Erksine, sexy guitar sounds, and this whole retro, nostalgic melody. I immerse myself in it…
“Firstly, many blogs have been banging on about the meaning of ‘Kuru’ and it’s affiliation with disease spread by cannibalism. Did you know this before you came up with ‘Club Kuru’?
Yes I did but I wish it hadn't been taken so literally. I was thinking more about a disease of the soul rather than the really tragic reality of the disease 'kuru'. I'm glad to say there haven't been any cases for years.”
I have a huge sentiment for this UK band. Their "Gone Like A Flower" soothed my pain a lot during the first weeks of my grief. Can’t wait till June for Club Kuru’s upcoming 3rd studio album "Before the World".
▶️ Corinne Bailey Rae - "He Will Follow You With His Eyes"
My jaw literally dropped this week when I stumbled upon this sexy, James Bond-ish kind of song on YouTube. It comes from Corinne’s album released last year - "Black Rainbows" (2023). Check the whole thing out, if you haven’t already! There’s so much more worth paying attention to in her discography than the "Corinne Bailey Rae" (2003) with the "Put Your Records On" on it.
▶️ strongboi - "magic"
Two words to perfectly describe this song? Supercharged mellowness! It feels cosy like a blanket. Dreamy melody fills you with warmth, heartwarming lyrics and soothing Sade-like vocals pet your brain through ears 👂🎶🧠. It’s that kind of song that makes you comfy and overall you feel much better than before listening to it. I love this strongboi project of two Berlin-based artists: Alice Phoebe Lou & Ziv Yamin, and I’m always excited about each new release.
And look at that adorable cover art 🫶
▶️ Ask Carol - "Desert"
This one radiates with good energy, and natural vibes. It makes me close my eyes and imagine dancing barefoot around a bonfire, feeling pure freedom and joy 💃🔥🌵. And damn how I like these whistling sounds! It’s going straight to my "Whistles 😗🎶" playlist.
Ask Carol is an alternative indie-rock duo that has emerged from the remote Norwegian mountain community of Auma, ready to shake up the music scene. Don't let the small size of this band fool you - with two guitars, drums, synth, Carol's unique bass and guitar system, and a bit of multitasking, Ask Carol packs a punch with a sound as big as a full band. The music of this high-energy power-duo ranges from fierce and mean to soft and comforting, drawing inspiration from the likes of the Kills, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and the White Stripes, all with a distinct Nordic, melancholic twist.
Don’t you dare to skip the live version! 🎸🎺🥁🐄 Ask Carol’s roadside jams are one of a kind…
And now, it’s voting time!
