Weekly Report No. 2 š«”š¶
Bunch of music discoveries from this week - Danielle Ponder, Ephemerals, Reptaliens, Artemas, Koastle & DLG | MC #59
Hi there,
Iām kind of mind-blown that itās almost December already. Donāt know how yours has been until now, but for me this month has been quite brain-bending and energy-draining šŖ«. Issues to be dealt with by the end of the year are still mounting, and the recent lack of sun, cooling of the weather, and quickly falling dusk arenāt helping. Anyway, hereās to those of us who recently feel like they have not only a lot of room for improvementā¦ but a whole damn hangar. Youāre not alone in this. Iām sending you lots of good energy from my special reserves! āØ āØ āØ āØ āØ āØ
Now, letās dive into Weekly Report no. 2 !
If you want to skip the read, hereās a link straight to the updated Weekly Report Playlist:
ā¶ļø Danielle Ponder - "Roll The Credits"
I canāt get over how powerful this is. The insanely strong voice of Danielle Ponder and dramatic music that keeps you in suspense altogether create an epic musical landscape. Damn, what a masterpiece of a song. It reminds me of Adeleās "Skyfall" for the James Bond movie of the same title from 2012. Soul-stirring delight š
If you enjoyed this, you have to check out Ponderās whole album "Some Of Us Are Brave" (2023). Itās exceptional from the beginning till the very end!
ā¶ļø Ephemerals - "You Made Us Change"
This gem of the song was released in 2014, and Iām wondering how I made it this long without hearing about Ephemerals?! The raw, raspy, and powerful voice of the bandās frontman Wolfgang Valbrun, and a wide range of different instruments involved create a melody that feels like an itch has been scratched šŗš·š„š¹šø. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
I had to check if it wasnāt on the soundtrack from the "Suits" series (2011-2019) because I instantly thought about Harvey Specter when first hearing this š“ļøš¼ - as I found out it wasnāt. But I think it would be a perfect fit š.
Sadly, I also found out that Ephemerals broke up in March 2020 during their European tour. Wolfgang Valbrun is still singing, but now solo.
ā¶ļø Reptaliens - "Listening"
It feels dark, kind of spooky, and beautifully synthwave-y. The first thing that came to my mind when I first listened to this song was that it would perfectly match the soundtrack from the "Drive" (2011) movie. Itās definitely a great addition to any late-night car rides type of playlist.
Havenāt heard about Reptaliens before and Iām thrilled to jump straight into their discography.
ā¶ļø Artemas - "if u think iām pretty"
Two words: rush & melt š„š« It gives solid The Weeknd-ish, Labrinth-like vibes. This songās energy meant lots of repeat play for me šā¶ļø. No wonder Oxfordās Artemas has around 3mln monthly listeners on Spotify. His popularity sky-rocketed after one of his singles got on Spotifyās New Music Friday in 2021 and got big on TikTok (4.3mln likes)š In my opinion itās well-deserved recognition š
ā¶ļø Koastle & DLG - "Stay Close"
Smooth melody, and dreamy vibes with Mac Miller-ish vocals. I feel like I am floating when listening to this āØāļøšŖ½. If, like me, youāre addicted to this kind of chilled-out, pop-electronic, mellow sounds, youāll for sure like Koastleās newest singles.
And thatās almost everything for today.
It would be awesome if you take less than a minute to hit that poll below š
Also, feel free to let me know what you think, and what discoveries youāve made yourself this week.
Have a great weekend.
Until next time!
Love your idea to poll us on our favourite track! Might steal that one.
Wow Stygi, what a stunning list of songs! I enjoyed them all, but particularly loved the first three. I voted for the Danielle Ponder track as #1 and after listening to the album I immediately put it on my Top Albums of 2023 playlist. Very rare indeed when an album gets there after one listen and I could easily see her ending up in my top 20 this year. That Reptaliens song is also fantastic and Iām looking forward to exploring their catalog this weekend.
