Weekly Report No. 4 🫡🎶
Bunch of music discoveries from this week - The Four Owls, The South Hill Experiment, Egyptian Blue, Derek Pope, BANSHEE | MC#63
Hey Friends!
How are things at your end? At mine, there were a few urgent things to get done once and for all, and I’m relieved they’re now things of the past. Sometimes, I let seemingly small things turn into big problems, which makes it much more difficult for me to deal with them later. Perhaps, you know that feeling?
Anyhow, today’s picks are both from my Spotify searches and YouTube suggestions. I hope you enjoy these additions to the Weekly Report Playlist, which you can follow / hit ♡ button (Save to Your Library) on Spotify:
Ok, let’s start off with a bang!
▶️ The Four Owls - "Silent Flight"
What a great track! I like everything about it - its sick beat, UK hip-hop charm, old-school, Wu-Tang Clan-ish vibes, animal references, and magical flow. Somehow, I’ve never heard about these owl dudes, and apparently, there’s a lot to get familiar with! 🦉🦉🦉🦉
▶️ The South Hill Experiment - "Alright, OK"
It reminds me of Animal Collective and Tame Impala with alternative sounds, and a pinch of psychedelia, mixed with some folk, and electro-pop elements. The LA-based siblings aren’t afraid of experimenting with sounds. They make it all sound a bit raw, and genre-fluid. In my opinion, it’s an absolute ear candy 🍬
If you like such dreamy melodies make space on your listening list for their new "SUNSTRIKES" (2023) album, which this song comes from. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
▶️ Egyptian Blue - "Matador"
Music from this Brighton-based duo is completely new to me. I stumbled upon "Matador" by accident, missclicking the thing I wanted to listen to on YouTube. As it turns out, it was a good thing. "Matador" is the opening song from the band’s debut album "A Living Commodity" (2023) which serves up yummy post-punk, art-rock rhythms and overall Foals vibes. 💯 recommend it!
▶️ Derek Pope - "Lost Woods"
Ooof, I don’t know how he does it, but each of Derek Pope’s releases hit the spot. He just never misses! I’m addicted to these deliciously hot 🥵🔥, ethereal sounds soaked with mellowness, and a pinch of darkness to it.
"Lost Woods" is one of the bonus tracks from his freshly released album "For I Have Sinned" (Deluxe 2023), filled with other great songs, like my favorite "Awake", or "Hotel".
▶️ BANSHEE - "can’t get you out of my head"
Kylie Minogue’s original version of this was one of my favorite childhood songs. And I know you can call this blasphemy, but I just can’t help it - I simply dig it. That angelic voice pretzeled together with spooky, and a bit nightmare-ish throw-ins feels refreshing. BANSHEE’s music is described as "trap metal-meets-hyperpop", and she herself is called a "Fairy Metal" Artist. I don’t know how about you, but I have a thing for quirkiness and oddity. Special thanks to Nava for sending this one my way! 🙇♀️
It went straight into my Covers Love playlist which of course I encourage you to explore.
Thanks for reading and listening! 🫶
