Hi there,
I don't know about you, but for me this week went by in the blink of an eye. Here are some of the positives that happened: I experienced a beautifully colorful sunrise, ate a massive, delicious Dutch Baby for a brekkie, and made a mini snowman.
Go ahead, and share a couple of your week’s highlights:
And now let’s dive into MC’s Weekly Report No. 9 🫡🎶

▶️ Lola Young - "Wish You Were Dead"
This week, I’ve listened to this one about 637623723623 times already. I admire Lola’s deep, raw, and impossible-to-ignore voice. She’s also a great lyricist with soul-crushing, diary-like storytelling skills. This charismatic, BRIT-nominated Londoner for sure knows how to hypnotize the listener with her unique sound, head-nodding and yet lyrically uneasy. This time she tells a story of her past toxic relationship:
“I feel inspired and positive about 2024 and if you know me or my music feeling this way isn't a given. This year is about leaving the negative shit behind. Surrounding myself with people that understand me, support me, make me feel. I'm grateful to be alive. I'm awake. If you've had a toxic ex my new single is for u and its called wish you were dead.”
▶️ Willow Avalon - "Honey Ain’t No Sweeter"
Incredibly warm, country-soaked, and cozy-sounding song. It’s my first time listening to Willow Avalon, a Georgia-born, NY-based artist, but I must say I’m already excited for her upcoming debut EP (February 2024). I like how she describes "Honey Ain’t No Sweeter", her newest creation:
“‘Honey’ is a really special song to me. I wrote it in Marfa, Texas on a dusty porch, sitting in an old rocking chair, in the middle of a wild love whirlwind I had just been thrown into – involving a country singer and his legendary country music/arts family.
I was in Marfa with him for his grandparents’ 50th wedding anniversary shortly after we met. Steve Earle played a short but sweet set in an old town hall to start off the celebration, followed by performances from one legend after the next. There was such a creative energy there, and my heart felt so full; the song just came out. I think I wanted to explain to my new love that I wanted this – that I wanted love and that quite literally ‘the grass ain’t always greener, honey ain’t no sweeter, on the other side,’ and that what we had was a good thing worth the risk.”
▶️ mustbejohn - "Just A Glimpse"
Somehow I’ve missed this gem from 2023… Energetic, and quite nostalgic at the same time - that’s how I feel this one. As I have a sweet spot for trumpet sounds 🎺🎺🎺, I couldn’t help myself but fall in love with it from the first time listening. This Hertfordshire-based rapper-singer just doesn’t miss 🔥. Each time I stumble upon something created by mustbejohn, it almost automatically clicks with me. "Just A Glimpse" is a perfect addition to my most energetic, smile-provoking, and constantly growing playlist - Lovelee Dae Mix ✨
Hold on, before we end, let’s vote:
