Weekly Report No. 8 🫡🎶
Gen and the Degenerates, Isaac Delusion, Azekel, Magdalena Bay, Biicla | MC #70
Hi there,
I hope you had a good week. Mine was pretty packed but overall nice. What was especially fun was that I spent some time with my awesome nephew Alek - we drew together main characters from Disney’s "The Lion Guard" 🖍️🦁, watched the movie "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" (2023) 🕷️🍿, and had some snowball fights ❄️.
This week, I also visited the creepy dark basement in my old apartment block and reorganized our home workspace with
. We divided our space in a way that we both now have more privacy and quietness. And on top of it all, I got to eat some delicious, crunchy bánh mì 🥖 in my favorite place in the Warsaw city center. And how about you? Feel free to share a few things from your week too:
Anyhow, without any further ado, let’s jump into MC’s Weekly Report No. 8 🫡🎶

▶️ Gen and the Degenerates - "Kids Wanna Dance"
This one by Gen and the Degenerates gives me some serious Beth Ditto’s from Gossip vibe. It’s a piece of pretty damn good British rock with powerful vocals, and chaotic rythms - something right down my alley. Can’t wait for their upcoming debut album!
▶️ Isaac Delusion feat. Olivia Merilahti - "All Day"
I’m not sure, to be honest, why it resonated so much with me. It’s simply a dreamy and soothing ballad with soft vocals. But for some reason, it made me relisten it quite a few times this week. I haven’t heard about this Parisian duo before, and I’m definitely excited to dive into their discography soon ✨
▶️ Azekel - "Love & Death, Pt. 2"
"Love & Death, Pt. 2" was created by Azekel, a Nigerian-born, London-raised artist in collaboration with widely renowned musician Ebo Taylor, who’s considered the Ghanaian King of Afrobeat 👑. I think this amazing take on Taylor’s hit song "Love and Death" is the best position from Azekel’s newest album Analyze Love (2023). Deeply moving, full of emotions and horns… what’s not to love?
▶️ Magdalena Bay - "Top Dog"
Just a beautifully weird piece of sonically and visually refreshing dog-themed art 🎨… and a great addition to my Barking good, dog- themed playlist 🐕, which I’ve made a while ago.
It’s my first time listening to Magdalena Bay, an LA-based electropop duo. I love how they explain their name:
“It’s the name of a woman who would e-mail Matthew at his job, which is like weird because she could eventually sue us, I guess. It was an administrator that he never met and her name was Maggie Bay, and he would just think to himself, “Wow that’s such a beautiful name.” She goes by Maggie, but her full name is Magdalena. We were just trying to think of a name for the band and he just said “It should be this” and I was like “Yes!” So we don’t know who she is, but we took her identity, and hopefully, she will never find out!”
▶️ Biicla - MISS YA
I love such catchy speeded up tracks! This one combines “melodic house vibes and UK bass elements, continuing the approach of self-invented HYPERHOUSE style by the artist”. Hope you’ll enjoy at least half as much as I do.
And now, it’s voting time!
If you have a minute go ahead and say hi! Tell me what’s up in your world. Maybe you’ve stumbled into some musical gems yourself this week?
Have an awesome weekend.
Until next time!
Yours,

After an amazing hiking vacation over the holidays it’s been a bit of a tough week for me as I’ve been down with Covid. Managed to get a bit of work done along the way and published a new Substack post introducing a new weekly playlist feature. Thankfully I’m way past the worst and just hoping to test negative tomorrow so I can stop isolating and rejoin the world.
The Gen and the Degenerates was my vote this week. You always have such a diverse set of tunes each week! I’m really interested in your musical discovery process. Where and how do you find all these great tracks so regularly?
