After an amazing hiking vacation over the holidays it’s been a bit of a tough week for me as I’ve been down with Covid. Managed to get a bit of work done along the way and published a new Substack post introducing a new weekly playlist feature. Thankfully I’m way past the worst and just hoping to test negative tomorrow so I can stop isolating and rejoin the world.
The Gen and the Degenerates was my vote this week. You always have such a diverse set of tunes each week! I’m really interested in your musical discovery process. Where and how do you find all these great tracks so regularly?
Damn, how awful end of vacay.. Hope you're much better now. I have my fingers crossed for your quick and full recovery ✌️ Need to check out what you're talking about - I'm super curious what idea you came up with this time!
Great pick, they really are awesome. You know, it's really chaotic process, that looks a little different every week. Almost each day I have these digging sessions on YouTube, Spotify, Bandcamp, and Soundcloud. I get many recommendations from my friends and family, subcribers, and followers here and there. Thanks to all of them I get to know a lot of different artists and musical genres which I probably wouldn't have discovered so quickly if it weren't for them. The first stage of listening is dynamic, and does not last too long. Selected songs are put on a special list to be reslistened at least a few times, and evaluated if they resonate enough with me to be shared here (there has to be some response from the body such as goosebumps, or some tingling feelings). I suppose I am truly addicted to finding new sounds and I simply have to satisfy this hunger as often as possible. Sounds familiar, right?
Thanks Stygi, feeling much better and testing negative on consecutive days so I was able to stop isolating yesterday which was great. Thanks for explaining your process and how you find these great selections. Thankfully I’m able to benefit from all your hard work! Although it’s not really work is it 😉
Fun recs as always! Magdalena Bay is worth a deep dive on their catalog, their last album Mercurial World is a blast, there's some songs in there like "Chaeri" that are playlist staples.
